Alan Hughes is an experienced business leader with over 20 years of experience in the medical field. He earned first BS in Finance from Indiana University and later an MBA. In the hospital arena he worked as a computer programmer and statistical analyst and was eventually invited to complete an Administrative Residency and Fellowship program where he gained insight into the administration of a large hospital system.

     Later in his career he was given the opportunity to return to the hospital arena and serve as Board Chair of a hospital for over three years. He also has leadership experience in regional laboratories and served as the Executive Director of a capitated insurance plan where he gained an in depth perspective of contracting and management of capitated risk pools.  This background provided a strong foundation to help in the leadership of multiple physician practices of various sizes. He has built a reputation as a results-oriented professional with expertise in financial and operational management and is an action-oriented problem solver whose leadership style supports the building of effective team relations. Mr. Hughes has a successful track record of helping groups improve their efficiencies and profitability. Specific areas of expertise include: Administrative/Operational Leadership, Personnel Management, Financial Management, Physician Mergers and Information Systems.     

Since its inception in early 2004, HCG has had the opportunity to assist multiple physician practices with interim management, mergers and new practice start-ups.  We have worked with both single and multi-specialty groups ranging in size from 14 to 80 physicians.  We have also helped to oversee the implementation of clinical laboratories and in-house pathology services in multiple urology practices.
